Our Story
In 2012, a harsh winter struck the Atlas Mountains in Morocco, tragically claiming the lives of many children. Moved by this loss, a group of Moroccans living in America came together with a shared desire to help. They connected with an organizer from Virginia who was collecting donations for Morocco, and this initial meeting sparked further conversations about forming a formal support network.
A few weeks later, the group joined by other passionate individuals gathered early in the morning to brainstorm the needs of the Moroccan community in America. They agreed that there was a significant need for recreational activities (such as picnics and trips) and better organization within the community. This collaboration led to the birth of MAROC, initially focused on these services in New Jersey.
With the rise of social media and the shift to virtual events during the COVID era, MAROC expanded its reach beyond New Jersey to include board members and volunteers from North Carolina, Texas, Connecticut, Florida, New York, Massachusetts, Alaska, Rhode Island, and other states. Over time, our scope broadened to offer a helpline, financial education, public relations support, and seminars, while extending our services to immigrants of all backgrounds, regardless of their country of origin.
